How it works

From printed menu to plain language in three steps.

No typing, no copying, no switching between apps. Point, wait a few seconds, order.

  1. 1

    Snap the menu

One tap on the camera button. Long menus are fine — add several pages and they arrive as one menu.

  2. 2

    Yumlate reads and translates

Every dish, price and category is pulled out and translated into your reading language. The original language is detected automatically, and dishes appear as they are ready.

  3. 3

    Order with confidence

Tap the dishes you want, check the allergens, and see the total in your home currency. Reading the order aloud to the staff is a Premium extra — not part of the first scan.

For you

Away, at home, or together at the table.

The same scan helps whether you are travelling, eating out locally, or sharing a menu with family and friends.

Away

A menu you cannot read on holiday — translated, with allergens marked and prices in your currency, before the waiter comes back.

At home

Your regular spots — scan once and keep the menu in Recent as your own little order catalogue, ready the next time you go back.

Together

Around the table, send a link or show a QR — everyone opens the same menu in their own language. That is free with an account. Premium unlocks a live table: push the menu from the car, see who ordered what, and read it aloud when the group is ready.

What's inside

Everything you need at the table.

Yumlate is built for the ten minutes when you are holding a menu you cannot read and the waiter is on their way over.

Translation into 16 languages

Read menus in Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Icelandic, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Chinese, Japanese or Korean.

Allergens highlighted for you

Pick from 14 common allergens in your profile. Dishes that match are marked in coral, right in the list and in the phrases of the description.

Prices in your own currency

Every price is shown as printed plus an approximate conversion to your home currency, so you know what dinner actually costs.

"What is this?" explanations

A translated name is not always enough. Tap the question mark on any dish for a short description and the typical ingredients.

Build your order

Tap dishes to collect them, set quantities, add a note such as "no chilli", and see the allergens for the whole order in one place.

Read the order aloud Premium

The phone speaks to the staff in their language — not yours. An English menu in Bangkok can be read aloud in Thai. Dish names stay as printed, including notes such as “no chilli”.

A map of shared menus Premium

See nearby restaurants with a shared menu, ratings and freshness for free. Opening someone else's menu is Premium — your own scans stay open in Recent.

Share the menu at the table

Send a link or show a QR code and everyone reads the same menu — each in their own language. Friends, groups and sharing are free with an account. A live shared order is Premium.

Bad signal is not a problem

Scan without coverage and the photo is queued. The translation finishes as soon as you are back online, and you get a notification.

Allergens

The dishes you must avoid, marked before you order.

Set your allergies once in your profile — gluten, lactose, nuts, peanuts, egg, fish, shellfish, molluscs, soy, sesame, celery, mustard, sulphites and lupin. From then on, every scanned menu is read against that list.

  • Matching dishes get a solid coral tag instead of a quiet grey one.
  • Words in the description that point at an allergen are highlighted in the text itself.
  • When the menu itself offers a free-from option or says “ask staff”, that note is shown so you can ask the right question.
  • Your order gets a summary of every allergen it contains before you hand it over.

Yumlate reads what the menu says and is a convenience aid, not allergen advice. Always confirm serious allergies with the restaurant.

Ordering

Say exactly what you mean, in their language.

Tap the dishes you want and Yumlate collects them into an order. Adjust the quantity, add a note like "no chilli", and see the total both as printed and converted to your home currency.

  • All the allergens in the order are summarised in one banner.
  • With Premium, the phone reads the order aloud in the staff's language — including your notes.
  • Dish names stay exactly as they are printed, so the kitchen recognises them.

The map

Read the menu before you sit down.

When someone scans a menu and chooses to share it, the restaurant appears as a pin. Free accounts see the map, ratings and how fresh the menu is. Opening someone else's menu is Premium — so the map stays a reason to upgrade as coverage grows. Your own scans always open from Recent.

  • Browse pins, ratings and freshness with a free account.
  • Open someone else's shared menu with Premium — no new photo needed.
  • Ratings are asked for a couple of hours after the visit — when you actually know.

Languages

Sixteen languages to read menus in.

Your reading language is separate from the app's language, so you can keep the interface in English and still read the menu in Japanese. Speaking to the staff is a third choice — so an English menu in Bangkok can still be read aloud in Thai.

FAQ

Questions before you download.

Do I need an account?
No. You can scan your first menus as a guest and see the full translation. An account is needed once you want history, an allergy profile, the map, sharing and orders — and it is free. New accounts get 2 days of Premium to try, which you activate when you want.
What does it cost?
Scanning and reading your own menus is free. A free account gives you up to 5 scans a day, the map (pins and ratings), orders, dish explanations and sharing via link or QR, and is funded by ads. Premium unlocks opening someone else's shared menus, a live table (who ordered what), reading the order aloud to staff, no ads and a higher daily scan limit — sold as prepaid passes from 39 SEK / week to 299 SEK / year, no running subscription.
Can I trust the allergen information?
Treat it as help, not as a guarantee. Yumlate reads what the menu says and marks the allergens it finds against your profile, but menus are incomplete and kitchens change recipes. For a serious allergy, always confirm with the restaurant before you order.
Which languages can I read menus in?
Sixteen at launch: Swedish, Danish, Norwegian bokmål, Finnish, Icelandic, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The app's own interface launches in English and Swedish. Reading the order aloud can also use Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay, Arabic or Hindi when that is the staff's language.
Does it work without a connection?
You can take the photo anywhere. If there is no coverage, the scan is queued and translated automatically as soon as you are back online, and you get a notification when it is ready. Menus you have already scanned stay readable offline.
What happens to my data?
Analytics and ads are off by default in the EU until you choose otherwise. Allergy data is only stored if you enter it and give consent, and you can export or delete your account from inside the app. The details are in our privacy policy.

Be there on day one.
